PREAMBLE
Where as, we the former members of the Ethiopian Air Force, who for one reason or another have established our residence here in the Washington metropolitan area as first generation immigrants and, where as many of our compatriots are scattered all over the world as refugees and are experiencing the same fate, only more so, and where as, it is evident that most AMFEA members in our home land are experiencing harsher economic and political realities, now therefore, in consideration of the above premises, we former members of the Ethiopian Air Force, following the time – honored tradition of “Ider” (Mutual Association) inherited from our forefathers, and in order to organize ourselves to better challenge together the economic hardship in this foreign land. Come to each others assistance in time of accident, need and distress. Be of both economic and moral assistance to our less fortunate friends scattered all over the world, financially or otherwise ease the burden of hardship of our fellow members in the homeland have hiereforth come together to form this mutual benefit association established in accordance with the article of incorporation as revised on September 5, 1996 and the relevant law of the district of Colombia.
BY-LAWS OF AMFEA THE ASSOCIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE FORMER ETHIOPIAN AIRFORCE AS REVISED ON JANUARY, 2004
These BY-LAWS are adopted under the authority of, and intended to be complementary to, the Articles of Incorporation of AMFEA Association as incorporated under the Non-Profit Corporation Act (DC code, 1981 Edition, Title 29, Chapter 510
CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL
ARTICLE ONE
Establishment
A non-political, non-profit, Air force Mutual Benefit Association has been established in accordance with the Articles of Incorporation, revised on September, 1996.
ARTICLE TWO
Name
The name of the association shall be AMFEA ASSOCIATION (here in after referred to as association)
ARTICLE THREE
Objective
The association is established for the following purposes:
1. To assist members or their families materially, spiritually and morally if and when a misfortune such as illness or death befalls the member himself or a member of his immediate family as defined in these by - law.
2.To assist, encourage and facilitate means of securing group health, life and other forms of insurance.
3.To assist members in securing legal and social services as may be deemed necessary and feasible.
4.To engage in any other lawful activity for which such an association may be organized, which the members may determine from time to time.
ARTICLE FOUR
Duration
The Association shall have a perpetual duration.
ARTICLE FIVE
Membership
1.Any Ethiopian who has at one time or another served in the AMFEA ,be it in a military or civilian capacity: Wives of former AMFEA members: And children 18 years and older whose parents may have served at one time or another.
2.Membership shall be open to both individuals and families.
ARTICLE SIX
Source of income
The Association shall generate income from the following sources:
1.membership dues
2.Donations which may be obtained from persons or institutions that support the cause of the Association.
3.Any other which the Association may device to generate fund within the limits of the law.
ARTICLE SEVEN
Dues
1.Every member shall pay an initial registration fee of $50.00.
2.Every member shall pay a monthly fee in the amount of $15.00.
3.Notwithstanding sub-articles (a) and (b) of this article, the General Assembly may change the registration and monthly fees as deemed necessary.
